Enrichment
At Woodlea Primary School, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular offer is carefully designed to enrich children’s experiences, nurture their talents and develop their character. Through a wide range of opportunities, we ensure that every child can discover new interests, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Educational visits and experiences beyond the classroom are a key part of our curriculum at Woodlea. We ensure that all children gain access to a rich range of experiences which build their cultural capital. These opportunities allow children to experience places, environments, people and activities that they may not otherwise encounter. Whether visiting historical sites, science centres, farms, museums, theatres, places of worship or engaging in outdoor learning, children are able to deepen their understanding of the curriculum through first-hand experiences. This includes an annual residential week for children in Year 5 and 6. Visits are carefully linked to curriculum learning, enabling children to make meaningful connections, develop vocabulary and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. This supports long-term retention and strengthens children’s engagement with their learning.
We are committed to ensuring equity of enrichment opportunity. Leaders have planned our enrichment offer so that all children, regardless of background or family income, access a broad range of experiences over time. Through this, children develop the cultural knowledge, confidence and social awareness needed to succeed in later life.
Our offer also includes:
- Regular visitors to the school, including experts, performers and community members, who bring learning to life and broaden children’s understanding of the world.
- Arts, music, dance and performance opportunities, including Young Voices at the O2 Arena and taking part in singing and dance performances at Oakmoor Secondary with other Bordon schools.
- A wide range of sporting events and extracurricular clubs.
- Instrumental tuition for Y1-6 and fully funded p-bone, trumpet, toot or dood lessons in Year 4 through Hampshire Music Service.
Leaders have mapped these enrichment experiences so that all children build a rich set of cultural and social experiences during their time at Woodlea. This ensures equality of opportunity and guarantees that every child benefits from a carefully considered enrichment journey.
Through these experiences, children develop key personal qualities such as curiosity, courage and resilience. They are encouraged to try new activities, take positive risks and step beyond their comfort zones. As a result, children leave Woodlea with broadened horizons, a deeper understanding of the world around them and the confidence to succeed in the next stage of their education.
